I had the opportunity to compete in SBC when I was in high school, and it was a great experience! I competed as part of a business course I was taking, and it was a great way to experience business decisions and put the course material into context. Coming to Carleton to compete was a great way to experience the campus and meet other students in the Ottawa area who were learning the same material I was. It was a great learning experience to sit down and focus on our inputs and results and then make decisions for the next quarter in a matter of minutes! The competition gave me a small taste of the kinds of fields I would later explore in depth in my business education, and it was my first experience with simulations, which are used in several university courses. SBC was a great way for me to get engaged in making business decisions, and definitely informed my decision as to which field to go into! SBC is a great representation of the Sprott School of Business, as I've had many opportunities in my degree to explore current business issues and put myself in the shoes of decision makers, which is really what SBC is all about! |

"My students had a very good time playing along. I think they learned a great deal more than I could have taught them about financial statements. They now see the relevance of the financial data. The game has increased their excitement, not to mention their confidence, in the business venture we'll be starting up after Christmas.
Thank you again. I look forward to getting my accounting class involved in the spring!" |

"I had opportunity to play the SBC three times during high school. I really enjoyed the chance to use my business knowledge from class in a practical manner and to compete against my classmates. We were always eager to see the quarterly results. The game is part of the reason I chose to take Business at Carleton University. The new SBC is even more realistic, more challenging, and more fun than ever!" |

"Thank you for running such a great competition. I had a lot of fun competing throughout the semester and during the playoffs this week. My knowledge of economics and business in general has 'skyrocketed' since the beginning of SBC (plus my Excel skills have improved too, from recording the events of the game). Thanks again for the doing a great job managing the simulation and answering my questions promptly and accurately." |
